Stephen King’s IT
For this project, I was assigned to redesign a book jacket of my choosing. I opted to design a new book jacket for Stephen King’s IT. I took inspiration from Saul Bass’ horror movie posters by keeping the design minimal while communicating the essence and story of the book through strategic choice of typographic elements as well as color.
Book Jacket Design
Through a choice of a sharp hue of red, I aimed to strike abruptly and communicate a sense of danger when viewers confront this book jacket. Intense contrast and ragged type to contribute to the feeling of horror and suspense. The silhouette of what appears to be a clown sits dead still on the page, but is it really a clown? The antagonist in the story is known to have the ability to shape shift into any form or color it pleases. Truth is, nobody knows what this entity really is. Only that it’s most distinguished and preferred form is that
of a clown…
